Purification of the Church: Persecutions, Schism

12th century, prophecy of St. Hildegard: “…Christians will especially attempt armed resistance [against their persecutors], without feeling any concern for the death of their bodies.

A mighty wind will rise up in the north by divine command bringing a thick fog and a very dense dust, it will rage against them [the persecutors of the Christians] and fill their throats and their eyes, so they will cease their barbarism and be seized with great astonishment.

Then among the Christian people the Good Lord will perform signs and wonders as He did in the time of Moses, with the pillar of cloud, and as Michael the Archangel did when he fought the pagans in aid of the Christians. With Michael’s help, God’s faithful children will march under his protection. They will decimate their enemies and achieve victory through the power of God…. As a result of this a large number of pagans will join Christians in the true faith and say, “the God of Christians is the true God because truly extraordinary works have been done among Christians…”

13th century, prophecy of John of Vatiguerro: “…The whole Church, throughout the universe, will be persecuted in a deplorable and painful manner; she will be stripped and deprived of all her temporal possessions, and there will be no eminent personage in the whole Church who is not glad to have his life saved. For all churches shall be defiled and defiled, and all public worship shall cease, because of the terror and fury of a rage the most dreadful. Religious women, abandoning their monasteries, will flee here and there lost and outraged. The pastors of the Church and the great ones, driven out and stripped of their dignities and prelatures, will be cruelly mistreated; the sheep and subjects will flee, and they will remain scattered without a shepherd and without a leader… The world will appreciate only those who are inclined to evil and vengeance. Alas! the sorrows caused by all tyrants, emperors and infidel princes will be renewed by those who persecute the holy Church. Indeed, the malice and impiety of the Huns, and the cruel inhumanity of the Vandals, will be nothing compared to the new tribulations, calamities and sorrows that will shortly oppress the holy Church as the altars of the holy Church will be destroyed, the floors of the temples desecrated, the monasteries defiled and stripped, for the hand and wrath of God will take vengeance against the world because of the multitude and continuity of sins. ..The pomp of the nobles will disappear, the sciences themselves and the arts will perish, and in a short time the whole ecclesiastical order will remain in humiliation…”

Fourteenth-century prophecy, St. Vincent Ferrer: “…The King of Aquilon having devastated Burgundy, he will enter Italy with the aforementioned false pope and with the infidels he will set everything on fire and blood. He will so afflict the clergy that the clergymen, as if loosed from their vocation, will hide their tonsure and dare not tell what they are. Churches and monasteries will be plundered, and all the property of the clergy and religious will be expropriated, to such an extent that the Church will be seen to be returning to its former poverty. And although the Church once had to suffer great persecution from infidels, this persecution will be the cruelest of all.

These persecutors will go to Rome; they will desecrate the See of Peter; they will destroy and raze to the ground the lion’s city [it is the walled citadel placed around the Basilica of St. Peter in the Vatican where the Apostolic See is located; and also with the consent of the Romans they will send Hadrian’s Mole…, Castel Sant’Angelo, to ruin. This persecution will last four years and more, according to what pleases God. During this persecution, the Pope will die and the Holy See, because of these misfortunes, will remain vacant for one year…”

15th century, prophecy of St. Francis of Paola: “…The infidels will also fight against Christians and heretics, plundering, destroying and killing most Christians. In the end, the army…of the Bearers of the Holy Cross will move not against Christians or Christendom, but against infidels in pagan countries, and will conquer all those kingdoms with the death of a very large number of infidels. After this they will turn their victorious weapons against bad Christians and destroy all those who rebel against Jesus Christ…”

1600, prophecy of Brother Johannes: “…Toward the end of the world tyrants and hostile people will suddenly rob the prelates and religious of the Church of all their property and afflict and martyr them painfully. Those who will subject them to the greatest violence will be held in high esteem. The clergy cannot escape these persecutions, but because of them all the servants of the Church will be forced to lead an apostolic life. At that time the Pope with the cardinals will have to flee from Rome under tragic circumstances to a place where they will be unknown. The Pope will die a cruel death in his exile. The sufferings of the Church will be far greater than at any other time in its history…”

Prophecy of the 17th century, Ven. Bartholomew Holzhauser: “…God will allow a great evil against His Church: heretics and tyrants will come suddenly and unexpectedly; they will break into the Church while bishops, prelates and priests are asleep. They will enter Italy and devastate Rome; they will burn churches and destroy everything…”

17th century, message of Our Lady to Mother Mariana de Jesus Torres, Quito Ecuador: “…vocations of religious will be lost. And this will be a real disaster. Religious will abandon their sacred duties and turn away from the path marked out for them by God…there will be a formidable and terrible war in which the blood of natives and foreigners, regular and secular priests and even nuns will flow… That night will be the most horrible, for it will seem to mankind that evil has triumphed; and then my hour will have come to dethrone the proud Satan in an astonishing manner, crushing him under my foot and chaining him in the infernal abysses, thus finally freeing the Church and the Nation from his cruel tyranny.”

Eighteenth-century prophecy of a Capuchin father: “…All ecclesiastics, secular and regular, will be stripped of their possessions and all kinds of property, and will be obliged to beg from the laity their food and everything necessary for their sustenance and for the worship of God. During these calamities the Pope will die. By the death of the Supreme Pontiff, the Church will be reduced to the most painful anarchy…. During this period in Italy much human blood will be shed and many cities, provincial towns and castles will be brought to ruin with the death of many thousands of people…”

18th century prophecy of Father Nectou: “…A great multitude of people will perish in these times of calamity, but the wicked will not prevail. They will attempt to destroy the whole Church, but they will not be given enough time, for this terrible crisis will be of short duration…. Then the Church’s triumph will be so complete that nothing like it will ever be seen again, for this will be the Church’s last victory on earth.”

“I saw a great power rise up against the Church. It plundered, ravaged and threw the Lord’s vineyard into confusion and disorder, causing it to be trampled upon by the people and ridiculed by all nations. Having defamed celibacy and oppressed the priesthood, she had the insolence to confiscate the property of the Church and to arrogate to herself the powers of the Holy Father, whose person and laws she held in contempt…

Eighteenth-century prophecy of Sister of the Nativity, Fougères France: “…I had a vision: a virgin of incomparable beauty, representing the Church, was kneeling before the Father and the Son-both seated. The Holy Spirit was spreading His resplendent wings over the virgin and the other two persons. Our Lord’s wounds seemed to be alive. While He was leaning on the Cross with one hand, with His other hand He was offering to His Father the chalice that the virgin had given Him. She held up the chalice that the Master held in the middle. Father placed one hand on the cup and raised the other to bless the virgin. I noticed that the chalice was only half-filled with blood, and at the moment of the presentation I heard the Savior utter these words, “I will not be fully satisfied until I can fill it to the brim.” I understood then that the contents of the chalice represented the blood of the first martyrs, and that this vision referred to the last persecutions of Christians, whose blood would fill the chalice, thus completing the number of martyrs and predestined. For at the end of time there will be as many martyrs as there were in the early Church, and even more, because the persecutions will be far more violent. Then the Last Judgment will not be long in coming…”

18th century prophecy by Sister of the Nativity, Fougères France: “…When the time of the Antichrist’s reign is near, a false religion will appear that will deny the unity of God and oppose His Church… This will cause the greatest schism the world has ever known.”

18th century, prophecy of Father Callistus: “…Iniquity has flooded the earth; this is nothing but iniquity!… We have abused the Sacrifice; the Sacrifice will cease!…. The judgments of the wicked shall be executed; death shall reap priests, monks, and laity; the heights shall be brought down… Church of God, you shall groan! Ministers of the Lord, you shall weep over new defilements! Of blood, of blood, of blood, you shall drink, you shall drink. The guilty earth shall be cleansed with fire.”

15th century, prophecy of Blessed Bernardino de’ Bustis: “… The Apostolic See will be vacant for about a year and a half, in which time the clergy will be so afflicted and tribulated, that for fear they will be forced to hide their tonsure, and so will almost every clergyman…”

15th century, prophecy of Blessed Bernardino de’ Bustis: “…A certain most powerful king of Christianity, who will arise close to the time of the Antichrist, will come in conflict against the Roman Church, and to the latter he will cause many tribulations, and at that time there will be a schism in the Church of God in the election of the Pope, for there will be created several: among whom there will be one who will be elected by the work of the aforesaid king, but he will not be true pope; rather he will persecute the true pope and those who obey him, and many will lend obedience more to the antipope than to the true pontiff; but ultimately such a false pope will end badly, and the true pope will remain uncontested pontiff. ..”

Nineteenth-century prophecy, the Ecstatic of Tours: “…Revolution will spread to every French city. There will be a great slaughter. This revolution will last only a few months but it will be terrible…. The persecutions against the Church will be even greater, but they will not last long. All the churches will be closed… The priests will have to go into hiding. The wicked will try to destroy everything religious, but they will not have enough time. Many bishops and priests will be put to death. The archbishop of Paris will be assassinated. Many other priests in Paris will have their throats cut because they will not have time to find a place to hide….

At this point, the French people will turn to God and implore the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Immaculate Mary. It [the French people] will eventually recognize that only He [the Lord] can bring back peace and happiness.”

19th century, prophecy of Ven. Mother Agnese Steiner: “Monks will have to leave their monasteries and nuns will be driven out of their convents, especially in Italy…The Holy Church will be persecuted…Unless people with their prayers obtain forgiveness, the time will come when they will see the sword and death, and Rome will be without a pastor…”

19th century, prophecy of Sister Bertina Bouquillon, France: “Once again the fools seem to have taken over! They make a mockery of God. Now, churches are closed; pastors flee; the Holy Sacrifice ceases.

The wicked seek to destroy everything; their books and doctrines are invading the world. But the day of justice has come. Behold your King; he advances amid the confusion of those stormy days. Horrible times! Both the righteous and the wicked fall!

There was also a great battle, the likes of which had never been seen before. Blood flowed like water…

The wicked were trying to slaughter all the servants of the Religion of Jesus Christ. After they had killed a great number of them, they let out a cry of victory, but suddenly the righteous received help from above.”

19th century, prophecy of St. Gaspar del Bufalo, Italy: “The death of the unrepentant persecutors of the Church will occur during the three days of darkness.”

19th century, prophecy of Blessed Elisabetta Canori Mora: “…this great work [the reformation of the people and the Church that the Lord promises to Elisabetta; Ed. note] will not be done without a great upheaval of the whole world, of all the populations, again of all the secular and regular clergy, of all the religious corporations of one sex and the other, all having to be reformed according to the Spirit of the Lord and the dictates of the primitive rules of their holy founders and institutors.”

June 7, 1815, vision of Blessed Elisabetta Canori Mora: “…in holy communion I was led to a solitary place, where I was informed of the many afflictions that our holy Mother, the Church, must suffer. Oh how many sorrows oh, how many we shall have to suffer! God wants to renew the whole world. This cannot be done without a great slaughter.”

Dec. 10, 1815, vision of Blessed Elisabetta Canori Mora: “…I was given to see our mother, the holy Church, in the form of a venerable woman: I saw her outwardly all adorned, all beautiful; this I saw her pleading at the august throne of God, who as a pitiful Mother prayed for us, her poor children; but particularly she prayed for the regular and secular clergy… The holy Church prayed, and God disdained her prayers; and, armed with justice, thus said, “Take part in my justice, and judge thy cause!” At these tremendous words, the venerable matron paled, and, taking part in God’s justice, of her own hand she stripped off her adornments. I then saw three angels coming, executors of divine justice, giving of their hands to strip the venerable matron. They reduced the strong woman to a humble and neglected state, devoid of strength, all stripped, and she was almost on the verge of falling. Then from the eternal wisdom a strong staff was administered to her to hold up her weakness. The divine power covered her head with rich hat, the inclined woman had lost all splendor, she lay in darkness, all mournful and sorrowful for the abandonment of her beloved children. The divine Spirit surrounded her with his immense light. Clothed that was the princely matron with this light, she handed down her splendor in four different parts, where this divine light did wondrous things. The dwellers of these places were as if asleep, at the appearance of this divine light they awoke; and, leaving their errors behind, they flew to honor the inclite woman, our dear mother, the holy Church. All were pleased to soldier under the auspices of this exalted woman, all confessed Jesus Christ our Lord. At the moment our mother, the holy Church, appeared, all adorned and glorious more than before. The religious orders gave her great honor, formed like a magnificent temple to support her with all their might…all came to honor her, adopting the maxims of our holy Gospel.” [this last part refers to the rebirth of the Church after the purification, a rebirth that will reach its acme during the Age of Peace].

1820-1822, prophecies of Blessed Anna Catherine Emmerich: “…I also saw the relationship between the two popes…. I saw how nefarious the consequences of this false church would be. I saw it increasing in size; heretics of all kinds were coming to the city [of Rome]. The local clergy became lukewarm, and I saw a great darkness…. Then the vision seemed to extend from all sides. Entire Catholic communities were oppressed, besieged, confined and deprived of their freedom. I saw many churches being closed, everywhere great suffering, wars and bloodshed. A wild and ignorant rabble was giving itself over to violent actions. But all this did not last long.” (May 13, 1820)

“I saw once again that the Church of Peter was undermined by a plan devised by the secret sect as the blizzards were damaging it. But I also saw that help would come when the afflictions reached their climax. Again I saw the Blessed Virgin ascending over the Church and spreading her mantle over it.”

“I saw more martyrs, not now but in the future…. I saw the secret sects ruthlessly undermining the great Church. Near them I saw a horrible beast rising from the sea…. All over the world good and pious people, and especially the clergy, were being harassed, oppressed and put in prison. I had a feeling that they would become martyrs one day. Then I saw an apparition of the Mother of God, who said that the tribulation would be very great. She added that these people must pray fervently…. They must pray especially that the church of darkness will leave Rome.” (Aug. 25, 1820)

“The Church is completely isolated and it is as if it were completely deserted. Everyone seems to be running away. Everywhere I see great misery, hatred, betrayal, resentment, confusion and a total blindness. O city! O city! What is threatening you? The storm is coming; be vigilant!” (Oct. 7, 1820)

“I had another vision of the great tribulation. It seemed to me that a concession was being demanded of the clergy that could not be granted. I saw many elderly priests, especially one, weeping bitterly. Some younger ones were also weeping. But others, and the lukewarm ones were among them, were doing without any objection what was asked of them. It was as if the people were dividing into two factions.” (April 12, 1820)

“…I also saw the battle. The enemies were much more numerous, but the small army of the faithful took down whole rows [of enemy soldiers]. During the battle, Our Lady was standing on a hill, wearing armor. It was a terrible war. In the end, only a few fighters for the just cause had survived, but the victory was theirs.” (Oct. 22, 1822)

Sept. 10, 1820, vision of Blessed Anna Catherine Emmerich: “…I saw St. Peter’s Church: it had been destroyed except for the Sanctuary and the Main Altar. St. Michael came down into the Church, dressed in his armor, and paused, threatening with his sword a number of unworthy shepherds who wanted to enter. That part of the Church that had been destroyed was promptly fenced off-so that the divine office could be properly celebrated. Then from all parts of the world came priests and lay people who rebuilt the stone walls, for the destroyers had been unable to move the heavy foundation stones.”

Note: Sister Emmerich’s vision of St. Peter’s Church in ruins is certainly to be understood figuratively; the image of the destruction of St. Peter’s walls represents the attacks on the Faith and the decay of the Church that will take place before its greatest triumph during the Age of Peace. However, based on the many prophecies that speak of a future destruction of Rome, it cannot be ruled out that the Vatican will also suffer heavy material damage and devastation on this occasion.

19th century, prophecy of Blessed Anna Maria Taigi, Siena: “…Religion will be persecuted and priests massacred. Churches will be closed, but only for a short time. The Holy Father will be forced to leave Rome.”

Sept. 29, 1882, message from St. Michael to Mary Julia Jahenny, Blain, France: “The Church will have its See vacant for many months…. There will be two successive antipopes who will reign over the Holy See for all this time…”

Taken from the second part of the secret of Fatima: “…When you see a night illuminated by an unknown light, know that it is the great sign God gives you that He is about to chastise the world for its crimes, by means of war, famine and persecution of the Church and the Holy Father. In order to prevent it, I will come to ask for the consecration of Russia to My Immaculate Heart and reparatory Communion on the First Saturdays. If they accept My requests, Russia will be converted and have peace; if not, she will spread her errors throughout the world, promoting wars and persecution to the Church. The good will be martyred, the Holy Father will have much to suffer, various nations will be destroyed…”

1917, prophecy taken from the third part of the secret of Fatima revealed to Sister Lucia by Our Lady: “… Various other Bishops, Priests, religious men and women climb a steep mountain, at the top of which there was a great Cross of rough logs as if it were made of cork with bark; the Holy Father, before arriving there, passed through a great city half in ruins and half trembling with faltering steps, afflicted with grief and sorrow, he prayed for the souls of the corpses he met on his way; having arrived at the top of the mountain, prostrate on his knees at the foot of the great Cross he was killed by a group of soldiers who fired several gunshots and arrows at him, and in the same way died one after another the Bishop Priests, religious men and women and various secular persons, men and women of various classes and positions. ..”.

20th century, testimony of Sister Natalia Magdolna, Hungary: “…The Lord Jesus made known to me what great confusion and terror will reign in the Church immediately before the victory He will bring to the world. The reason for this confusion will be that ungodliness will penetrate the closed sanctuaries of the Church; tradition will be damaged and there will be a worldly spirit everywhere. This calamity will be accompanied by hatred among the nations, resulting in the outbreak of many wars. Many will attack the Church: their goal will be to drive believers away from the Church, to take away their confidence in it, and in this way they will become prey to Satan.”

20th century, testimony of Sister Natalia Magdolna, Hungary: “…As a result of the ‘purification,’ humanity will live in the purity and beauty in which the Father created the first man.”

April 12, 1947, message from Our Lady to Bruno Cornacchiola, Tre Fontane, Italy: Our Lady shows Bruno Cornacchiola on the ground a black cloth, a priest’s cassock, and above it a cross broken in several places: “This is the sign that the Church will suffer, will be persecuted, broken; this is the sign that my children will be stripped…,” Our Lady explains.

April 16, 1955, message to Blessed Elena Aiello, Calabria: “…The dictators of the earth, true infernal monsters, will land the Churches with the Sacred Tabernacles and destroy peoples and nations and the dearest things. In this sacrilegious struggle, by fierce drive and fierce resistance much will be torn down of all that has been made by the hand of man.”

Message of Our Lady to Teresa Musco, Caiazzo (Caserta): “…From 1972 the time of Satan and the time of great trials will begin… cardinals will oppose cardinals, bishops will oppose bishops…”

July 23, 1973, message of Our Lady to Teresa Musco, Caiazzo (Caserta, Italy): “…Tell everyone that I need humble and courageous priests, ready to be killed, mocked and trampled, to lose their lives, their blood, so that through them I may shine in the Church after the great purification.”

Feb. 14, 1976, message of Our Lady to Teresa Musco, Caiazzo (Caserta, Italy): “…You will see a great revolution in My house, the Communists in power. And in My house in Rome they are already there, but they will only manifest themselves when they can rule freely, unhindered. Then there will be shedding of innocent blood.”

Feb. 5, 1968, message of Jesus to Sister N.N, Italy: “…The Church will still have much to suffer!”

May 22, 1966, message from Jesus to Mother Carolina Venturella, Italy: “…Even more calamitous times will come for mankind…for the Church…and the faith of the good will be sorely tried…”

October 23, 1975, message of Jesus to Bishop Ottavio Michelini, Italy: “…My Church will be purified from the follies of human pride and, in the end, the love of my Mother and yours will triumph.”

Nov. 2, 1975, message from Jesus to Bishop Ottavio Michelini, Italy: “…The woman in childbirth groans, but then she rejoices because she has given birth to a son. It is time for the grain cast into the bosom of the earth to rot, and then to bear much fruit. The hour is near when my Church will groan in fierce and unheard-of persecution in order to be reborn One, Pure, Holy and Immaculate.”

May 5, 1977, message from Jesus to Bishop Ottavio Michelini, Italy: “…The world and my Church itself have reached such a level of moral and spiritual perversion that Divine Justice can no longer tolerate. This Divine Justice (already in progress) will manifest itself more and more, leaving at the mercy of themselves, world and church, which, coming to lack divine assistance, will be more tyrannized by the dark and evil hordes of hell, who, finding no obstacle from Divine Omnipotence, will vent their perfidious and inhuman sadism on everything and everyone; attacks on churches will multiply, desecrations of persons or sacred things, blood, blood, blood will flow. This is my son why already today you are witnessing such grave deeds so inhuman, so savage, so often you wonder how it is possible to reach these excesses.”

Dec. 30, 1992, message from Jesus to Nancy Fowler, Conyers: “…Do not think that communism is dead. I tell you: it is on the rise…”

Oct. 13, 1973, message of the Virgin Mary to Sister Agnes Sasagawa, Akita: “…The work of the devil will also creep into the Church in such a way that cardinals will be seen opposing other cardinals, bishops against bishops. Priests who venerate me will be despised and hindered by their brethren…churches and altars will be sacked; the Church will be full of those who accept compromises, and the devil will push many priests and consecrated souls to leave the Lord’s service. The devil will be relentless especially against souls consecrated to God. The thought of the loss of so many souls is the cause of My sadness. If sins increase in number and severity, there will be no forgiveness for them…”

March 3, 1982, message from God the Father to Eileen George, Worcester (USA): “…There must be a change in My chosen ones, for the Church is falling into nothingness…doctrine and tradition will be separated and the Church will begin to crumble. There must be this invisible source of faith to hold the pieces together. The priests will oppose each other and erect fortresses against other priests and against the Vicar. There will be great darkness, and it has now come upon the Church. There will be great division within it. There will be warnings, but they will not heed them…”

Nov. 20, 1981, Our Lady’s message to Amparo Cuevas, El Escorial: “…The Vicar of my Son will have much to suffer, because for a time the Church will be consigned to great persecution; it will be the time of darkness; the Church will go through a horrible crisis. Yes, My child, civil and ecclesiastical power will be abolished.”

February 1, 1986, message from Jesus to Amparo Cuevas, El Escorial: “…It will be terrible the calamity that will fall on Earth. No chastisement like this has ever been seen…. When this happens, My daughter, there will be great monsters to rule and they will not respect the Sacred Foods of the churches. For the dictators of the world will be true demons incarnate and will destroy all holy things. They will martyr my consecrated souls. Those few who remain holy will be martyred by the hands of an executioner, My child. What about my Vicar? My Vicar will be tormented.”

Nov. 22, 1992, Our Lady’s message to Fr. Stefano Gobbi: “…The Holy Spirit will open hearts and minds, so that all may fulfill the Will of the Father and the Son, so that, as in heaven, the Divine Will may also be perfectly fulfilled on earth. To reach these new heavens and this new earth, one must go through the painful and bloody trial of purification, great tribulation and chastisement.

My beloved ones and children consecrated to my Immaculate Heart, listen to the words of your Heavenly Mother, who sweetly prepares and leads you to experience these events, for the times, which were foretold to you by the prophet Zechariah, have now come. “Oracle of the Lord. I will strike the shepherd and the flock will all be scattered; then I will turn my hand over the weak. Oracle of the Lord. In all the land, two thirds shall be exterminated and perish; one third shall be preserved. I will cause this third to pass through the fire; I will purify it as silver is purified, and I will try it as gold is tried. It shall invoke my Name and I will listen to it; I will say – this is my people. – It shall say – the Lord is my God. -“.”

Oct. 13, 1988, message of Our Lady to Fr. Stefano Gobbi: “…I announce to you that the time of purification has come to a climax and that therefore you are called to live the most painful moments of what has been foretold to you.”

Dec. 31, 1990, Our Lady’s message to Fr. Stefano Gobbi: “…For this world the time of its chastisement has now come. You have entered the strong times of purification and the sufferings will have to increase for everyone. My Church, too, needs to be purified from the evils that have afflicted her and that make her live the moments of agony and her painful passion.”

September 1987, Our Lady’s message to Fr. Stefano Gobbi, Akita, Japan: “…I weep because the Church continues on the road of division, of the loss of the true faith, of apostasy, of the errors that are increasingly being propagated and followed. By now what I foretold at Fatima and what I revealed here in the third message confided to a little daughter of mine is being fulfilled. Then also for the Church the time of her great trial has come, for unrighteous man will settle within her and the abomination of desolation will enter the holy Temple of God.”

Nov. 15, 1990, Our Lady’s message to Fr. Stefano Gobbi: “…The great trial has come for your Church. Errors have continued to spread that have led to the loss of faith. Many Pastors have not been attentive, nor vigilant, and have allowed many rapacious wolves, dressed as lambs, to break in among the flock to bring disorder and destruction. How great is your responsibility, O Pastors of God’s holy Church! You continue on the path of division from the Pope and rejection of his Magisterium; indeed secretly you prepare a true schism that may soon become open and proclaimed. Then only a small faithful remnant will remain, which I will guard in the garden of my Immaculate Heart…”

August 19, 1985, message of Our Lady in the apparitions of Melleray, Ireland: “…God is angry with the world. Men will have to improve and pray. My message is for all the people of God’s Church. Men have ten years to improve and to pray…”

August 23, 1985, message of Our Lady in apparitions in Melleray, Ireland: “…if the world does not improve in ten years the devil will take over the Church of God…With your faith and prayers you can defeat the devil.”

Oct. 25, 1987, Divine Appeal No. 30 from Jesus to Sister Anna Ali, Kenya: “…Pray much; My Churches will be devastated and sacked and My Sacred Body trampled…”

Jan. 14, 1996, message from Jesus to Catalina Rivas, Bolivia: “The Pope will see the destruction of Rome and the Vatican, trampled and despoiled, and he will suffer as Father of Christendom. From his lips will come an anathema against those who, forgetting their faith, will join the Beast. The experiences he will suffer, and what he will see, will make him lift up his arms in an act of supplication and make him kneel begging for forgiveness.”

Persecutions of the Holy Father; a pope is assassinated

Thirteenth century, prophecy of John of Vatiguerro: “…The supreme head of the Church will change residence, and this will be a blessing for him and for his brothers who will be with him […] all the malice of men will turn against the universal Church, and for the fact it will be without a defender for twenty-five months and more, because during that time, there will be neither pope nor emperor in Rome nor regent in France…”

Fourteenth-century prophecy, St. Vincent Ferrer: “…This persecution will last four years and more, according to what pleases God. During this persecution, the Pope will die and the Holy See, because of these misfortunes, will remain vacant for one year.”

1600, prophecy of Brother Johannes: “…the Pope with the cardinals will have to flee from Rome under tragic circumstances to take refuge in a place where they will be unknown. The Pope will die a cruel death in his exile…”

Prophecy of the 18th-19th centuries, Helena Wallraff, Germany: “…The fleeing pope will settle in Cologne, but he will have only four cardinals.”

Nineteenth-century prophecy, the Ecstatic of Tours: “…Revolution will break out in Italy, almost at the same time as in France. For a while the Church will be without a Pope…”; “The Holy Father will be assassinated…”

19th century, prophecy of Ven. Mother Agnes Steiner: “…The Holy Church will be persecuted…and Rome will be without a pastor…”

19th century, prophecy of Blessed Anna Maria Taigi, Siena: “…Religion will be persecuted and priests massacred…. The Holy Father will be forced to leave Rome.”

1820, prophecies of Blessed Anna Catherine Emmerich: “…Those I saw I believe were almost all the bishops of the world, but only a small number were perfectly righteous. I also saw the Holy Father – absorbed in prayer and fearful of God. There was nothing that left anything to be desired in his appearance, but he was weakened by old age and much suffering. His head hung from side to side and fell on his chest as if he were falling asleep. He often had fainting spells and seemed to be dying. But when he prayed he was often comforted by apparitions from Heaven. At that time his head was straight, but as soon as he dropped it on his chest I could see a number of people looking rapidly to the right and left, that is, in the direction of the world.”

“I see the Holy Father in great distress. He lives in a different palace than before and admits only a limited number of friends close to him. I fear that the Holy Father will suffer many more trials before he dies. I see that the false church of darkness is making progress, and I see the tremendous influence it has on people. The Holy Father and the Church are really in such great affliction that one should implore God day and night.” (Aug. 10, 1820)

“Last night I was taken to Rome where the Holy Father, immersed in his pain, is still in hiding to avoid dangerous tasks. He is very weak and exhausted from pains, worries and prayers. He can now trust only a few people; it is mainly for this reason that he has to go into hiding. But he still has with him an elderly priest of great simplicity and devotion. He is her friend, and because of his simplicity they did not think he was worth taking out of the way. But this man receives many graces from God. He sees and realizes many things, which he faithfully reports to the Holy Father. I was asked to inform him, while he was praying, about the traitors and workers of iniquity who were part of the high hierarchies of the servants who lived next to him, so that he could notice them.” (August 1820)

“The Church is in great danger. We must pray that the Pope does not leave Rome; countless evils would result if he did…” (Oct. 1, 1820)

“As I was passing through Rome with St. Francis and other saints, we saw a large palace enveloped in flames from top to bottom. I was so afraid that the occupants might burn to death because no one was coming forward to put out the fire. However, as we approached, the fire diminished and we saw a blackened building. We passed through a large number of magnificent rooms, and finally reached the Pope. He was sitting in the dark and asleep in a large armchair. He was very sick and weak; he could no longer walk.

The clergymen in the inner circle seemed insincere and lacking in zeal; I did not like them. I spoke to the Pope about the bishops who were soon to be appointed. I also told him that he should not leave Rome. If he did, it would be chaos. He thought that evil was inevitable and that he had to leave to save many things…. He was very much inclined to leave Rome, and was urged insistently to do so…” (Oct. 7, 1820)

1909, prophecy of Pope Pius X: “…I saw one of my successors fleeing by stepping over the bodies of his brothers. He will find refuge incognito somewhere and after a short period of isolation will die a violent death.”

1917, prophecy taken from the first part of the secret of Fatima revealed to Sister Lucy by Our Lady: “…the Holy Father will have much to suffer…”

1917, vision taken from the third part of the secret of Fatima revealed to Sister Lucia by Our Lady: “… Various other Bishops, Priests, religious men and women climb a steep mountain, at the top of which there was a great Cross of rough logs as if it were made of cork with bark; the Holy Father, before arriving there, passed through a great city half in ruins and half trembling with faltering steps, afflicted with grief and sorrow, he prayed for the souls of the corpses he met on his way; having arrived at the top of the mountain, prostrate on his knees at the foot of the great Cross he was killed by a group of soldiers who fired several gunshots and arrows at him, and in the same manner died one after another the Bishop Priests, religious men and women and various secular persons, men and women of various classes and positions. ..”

19th-20th century, message of Jesus to Mary Julia Jahenny, Blain in France: “…The Church will remain vacant for long months.”

Good Friday 1961, vision of Blessed Elena Aiello, Calabria: “…Oh, what a horrible vision I see! A great revolution is happening in Rome! They are entering the Vatican. The Pope is alone, he is praying. They are holding the Pope. They are taking him by force. They are beating him until he falls down. They are tying him up. Oh God! Oh God! They are kicking him. What a horrible scene! It’s terrible…! Our Lady is approaching. Those evil men are falling to the ground like corpses! Our Lady helps the Pope up by taking him by the arm, covers him with Her cloak and says to him: – Don’t be afraid!”

August 22, 1969, message of Our Lady to Blessed Elena Aiello, Calabria: “…the Pope will have to suffer much.”

Jan. 2, 1979, message from a soul in Heaven to Monsignor Ottavio Michelini, Italy: “…we see standing a white figure of a man who rises by his moral and spiritual stature like a giant and holds alone with a firm hand a Banner; it is the Banner of the Church of Christ which many and powerful enemies would like to snatch from Him but which He holds with a sure hand as He points out to all the Way of Salvation. This invincible Condottiero who fears nothing will fall, most glorious Martyr, reddening with His blood the immaculate robe He wears, thus also sprinkling the Church … many of those in fact who should be at the side of the proud and glorious warrior have abandoned him by passing over to the Enemy, and although externally they feign fidelity and obedience, at the same time they conspire against Him, but all the murders and deceptions of the enemies of Christ, the supreme and invincible King of the eternal ages, will fall on deaf ears because they ‘will not prevail.'”

Jan. 22, 1983, message from Our Lady to Amparo Cuevas, El Escorial: “…The Vicar of Christ is in great danger…Freemasonry has infiltrated…”

Visionary Patricia Talbot, Cuenca, Ecuador: Patricia relates some details that Our Lady would reveal to her about the war: “The war is near… Initially Poland will also be involved, but when the Holy Father leaves Rome, going first to France and then to Poland, Poland will be protected…that’s why conversion now is so important.”
