“The Mystery of the Incarnation -the word mystery is real- was accomplished when the time of Jesus Christ’s coming to earth was ripe for His teaching and for His saving Sacrifice and reparation for the original sin.

This sin was extremely serious, since it degraded man’s very nature, and God’s gift was wounded, even atrophied.

The original sin, the fall, its consequence

All that remained of Adam and Eve was their corporeal life; their higher life, that of the soul, was emptied of its superior qualities, of its authority over the body, of the divine source that flowed within it and continually rekindled it like an unquenchable fire, the fire of the Holy Spirit.

When the sin was committed, after having thought about it and done it knowingly, that is, with full knowledge and consent, according to the Catholic formula of grave and mortal sin for the soul, the first two humans felt ashamed and deeply humiliated. They soon realized that their souls had been grafted onto a branch of evil, that this graft was indelible and profoundly altered their persons.

They felt physically that their bodies were taking precedence over their souls, which had been in the foreground, in front of their bodies, disappearing into the shadows of their carnal state. This feeling of physical heaviness was new to them, and they realized that their bodies were exerting a new pressure, whereas previously their souls had decided what their bodies needed to subsist; now their bodies had become demanding, hungry or thirsty and preferring to be satisfied rather than wait, becoming imperious whereas they had been submissive and always obedient. Their bodies, which enabled them to see, hear, taste, smell and move, had become as if unique, and the soul had as if disappeared, suffocated by this carnal life which commanded and took up all the apparent space of human life.

The original sin, the fall, its consequence

Their intellect, which responded to the soul in a state of grace, submissive to God’s Will and to whatever God wished for it, had lost that inner fervor, that love of God which had seemed so natural and predominant, and they now had to think for themselves, whereas before, God had enlightened them and communicated His knowledge and counsel.

Nature itself seemed changed to them. It seemed duller like winter light compared to summer light. It seemed to them as if it were faded, even withered. And indeed, it was as if a different season had arrived, the effects of which they had yet to experience. The earth had given them everything they needed, and now it too seemed dried up.

They lacked the sanctifying grace of which they had been deprived until God’s forgiveness, and for the first time they were disconcerted and disturbed. They saw themselves as they were, and knew the need to cover themselves. Concupiscence had entered their souls, even though they had been free of it.

This change of state, both physical and intellectual, deeply moved them, and they understood the immense difference that had affected them, the immense decrepitude into which sin had brought them, the immense insult done to their God, Master, Lord and tender Friend, who had spoiled them so much.

The original sin, the fall, its consequence

God showed Himself to them again, but this time as a Judge, merciful indeed, but severe and just too. He forgave them after their confession, but the man and woman, having themselves overturned the order established by divine gift, remained in this new state, since it is impossible to erase time, in whole or in part. They had placed themselves in the hands of the tempter, their state was diminished in relation to the gift of God received in their creation, and all their long life, 930 years for Adam (Gn 5:5), they mourned their fault and the considerable insult done to God in His work.

May God be fervently praised and loved for His Justice and Mercy, through which He sent the Savior, Christ Jesus, to forgive men, save them, open Heaven to them once again, and make them co-heirs with God the Father, brothers with God the Son, and perpetual worshippers of God the Holy Spirit.”
