Prayer and worries: What is prayer

“When I was on earth, I very often stayed with people who welcomed Me, because I was crisscrossing the Land of Israel and had no alternative but to receive hospitality.

When I stayed with someone, I received what they could give Me. Sometimes little, sometimes too much, but for Me and My disciples, we were always content. They took great pains to receive us as well as possible, and when everyone was asleep, I often went out to pray. I would be back before the first of them woke up, and so I remained discreet but always eager for these heart-to-hearts with My Heavenly Father.

What is prayer?

To pray is to adore, to thank, to ask, to accuse. As for Me, I didn’t accuse Myself, because I followed My Father’s Will in everything and never deviated from it.

  • Prayer is necessary for the soul to lift it up to God and do His Will.
  • When you pray, do it simply and devoutly.

It is God who gives everything, from whom you receive everything, who manages your life and your possessions.

When a man is rich or poor, God allows it. A rich man believes in his star, but very often forgets that his wealth comes from God.

The poor man makes sacrifices, and if he offered them to God, he would be holy. Unfortunately, many poor people blame their poverty on a supposed injustice, but this is not the case. Their situation either embitters or sanctifies them, and I am their Providence so that they do not sink into total penury when they pray to Me.

Through prayer, My children, you will overcome your difficulties and worries with My Grace.

  • Pray, but do pray; most of the time, you anguish but don’t think of praying, of asking Me for help; and if I give it to you, it often happens that your nature and your faults ignore it.

Yes, it happens all the time. You don’t receive the help I give you because it doesn’t correspond to what you expect, and yet humility in distress is already holiness.

You’ve got your own way of doing things, and you can’t imagine that someone else would do things differently, that God is giving you a helping hand, but you’re missing out because of your character and, dare we say it, pride. Yes, pride takes away balanced judgment and is often the main obstacle to resolving difficulties and disputes.

Through sincere prayer, like that of the guilt-ridden publican who doesn’t dare climb higher than the back of the temple, pride can be lessened, removed.

Yes, I always have harmonious solutions for any difficult condition, but you often don’t ask for them or see them.

  • Humility is not submission.
  • Humility is not belittlement.
  • Humility is gentleness, firmness, but also the ability to understand.

Train yourselves, My children, to be gentle and to try to understand what your neighbor is feeling. If you understand them better, you’ll avoid annoying them and you’ll be able to get along better.

When you pray, say:

“Our Father, who art in Heaven,
hallowed be Thy Name,
Thy Kingdom come,
Thy Will be done,
on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts
As we also forgive our debtors,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.’

And at the end of this beautiful prayer, say: ‘thank you’.

May this thank you be truly, personally and gratefully addressed to Me for all that you have received from Me, the things known and the many things unknown.

Hallowed be My Name, and My Kingdom come; so be it.”
