July 16, 2024, Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel
§1
“My dearest Children, My Beloved,
Today, July 16, is a great day, a great feast of My Most Blessed Mother, also called “Our Lady of Mount Carmel”.
Why this name?
Because this place of refuge and oratory of the prophets Elijah and Isaiah is the oldest shrine dedicated to the Blessed Virgin. It was Isaiah, in fact, who asserted (that “a pregnant virgin will bear a son, and his name will be ‘Emmanuel’ Is 7:14), which means ‘God with us’.
As recorded in Genesis, God had already promised mankind, from the time of Adam and Eve’s sin, that the woman’s lineage would crush the head of the serpent that had bitten him on the heel, i.e. far below.
In fact, whatever the devil does cannot surpass what God does: every Divine victory is infinite, while every victory of the devil, however great and cruel, cannot be measured against Divine Power.
Thus, today’s feast venerates the greatness of Mary, awaited since the earliest times, and the grotto of Mount Carmel is the first place of devotion.
Mary later gave Saint Simon Stock [1] the characteristic Carmelite habit on July 16, 1251, and this garment was blessed by Pope Innocent IV (1243-1254) [2], who had himself approved their rule in 1245.
§2
Thus, from the very beginning, the history of mankind has been under the guidance of Divine Providence, despite its many deviations; always ready to lift man up, while he remains ever ready, unfortunately, to follow the tempting devil.
When man resumed his daily life after the Flood, he soon forgot virtue and quickly sank into immorality and greed.
God allowed this to happen again, and Sodom and Gomorrah were terrifying examples. Man always goes astray, but through the Incarnation of the Lord Jesus Christ, God came to forgive and justify him. Despite the supernatural help of the Sacraments, man has fallen and fallen and fallen again over the centuries. Many saints and exemplary people have served as examples and uplifters, but today the cup is full and almost the entire world has become like Sodom and Gomorrah again.
§3
Immorality, cruelty, pride, selfishness and greed have invaded the world, the West in particular, and the Divine sentence of doom has already been decreed.
Yes, My dearest Children, when evil spreads and passes the point of no return, God enters the fray and His Divine Hand is inexorable. Many will die, few will escape. And I repeat the words spoken in My lifetime on earth:
“Unless you begin to do penance, you will all perish in the same way” (Lk 13:5).
Look around you at the wanton murders in the streets, at the wars raging in certain parts of the world today, at the sins crying out to Heaven for vengeance [3] and encouraged by the public authorities, at the widespread impudence and individualism that take account only of your own misguided personal desires – what horrors and horrors are men not capable of committing today for their own depravity!
Yes, today’s earth is similar to the time of the Flood, when so much evil was committed that God wanted to crack down and return to the starting point: one family, just one, to rebuild humanity in faithfulness and holiness.
§4
But Noah’s descendants became depraved, and God drew Abraham and his family from them to make them, through their descendants, a gifted and preserved people [4]. But once again, these people were not faithful to Him, and when He Himself came among His own, He was falsely accused and crucified.
Through My Sacrifice, I re-founded a new people and structured it in such a way that it could live from Me and My Sacraments, and gather all men into its Heart, its Breast: the Holy Church. But now, as in the past, even the men of the Holy Church have become unfaithful to Me and My children have gone astray.
§5
I am the Good Shepherd, I know My sheep and My sheep know Me; I will seek out My lost sheep and bring them back. But also, as at the time of the Flood, I will let all men, except My chosen ones, be caught and sucked into the coming disaster.
For, and I repeat again:
“Unless you begin to do penance, you will all perish in the same way” (Lk 13:5).
My very dear Children, I, your God, am not a bird of misfortune, no, I am God, your Beloved, and I want you all, yes, all, with Me in My divine Abode. Mary, My Mother and your Mother, is there, My saints whom you venerate and other anonymous ones are there too, and your place awaits you there. So never be afraid, have no fear, you will be so happy in My Heaven that you will not regret any of the voluntary or involuntary penances that you will do with submission and gentleness.
§6
I am waiting for you, the earth is impatient to find itself beautiful and luxuriant again, while I, your God, had originally prepared an earthly paradise for you.
You have lost it, but My goal, that of your God, is that what I wanted for you in the first instance should finally be fulfilled in the second.
Yes, the earth that was always meant to be beautiful and welcoming will become so again, for God’s plans, even when thwarted and defeated, under the effect of My Divine Providence, always come to fruition in the end!
Evil will be crushed:
“I will put enmity between you and the woman, between your lineage and hers; He will crush your head after you have struck him in the heel” (paraphrase of Gen 3:15).
May it be so! I bless you, My Children, be holy, be perfect as I want you to be, be good and always charitable.
In the Name (+) of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. So be it.
Your Lord and your God. »
- St. Simon Stock: Although little is known about Simon Stock’s early life, legend has it that the name Stock, meaning “tree trunk,” derives from the fact that, beginning at age twelve, Simon lived as a hermit in a hollow tree trunk of an oak tree. It is also believed that, as a young man, he went on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land where he joined a group of Carmelites with whom he later returned to Europe. Simon Stock founded many Carmelite Communities, especially in University towns such as Cambridge, Oxford, Paris, and Bologna, and he helped to change the Carmelites from a hermit Order to one of mendicant friars. In 1254 he was elected Superior-General of his Order at London. Simon Stock’s lasting fame came from an apparition he had in Cambridge, England, on July 16, 1251, at a time when the Carmelite Order was being oppressed. In it the Virgin Mary appeared to him holding the brown scapular in one hand. Her words were: “Receive, my beloved son, this scapular of thy Order; it is the special sign of my favor, which I have obtained for thee and for thy children of Mount Carmel. He who dies clothed with this habit shall be preserved from eternal fire. It is the badge of salvation, a shield in time of danger, and a pledge of special peace and protection.” The scapular (from the Latin, scapula, meaning “shoulder blade”) consists of two pieces of cloth, one worn on the chest, and the other on the back, which were connected by straps or strings passing over the shoulders. In certain Orders, monks and nuns wear scapulars that reach from the shoulders almost to the ground as outer garments. Lay persons usually wear scapulars underneath their clothing; these consist of two pieces of material only a few inches square. There are elaborate rules governing the wearing of the scapular: although it may be worn by any Catholic, even an infant, the investiture must be done by a priest. And the scapular must be worn in the proper manner; if an individual neglects to wear it for a time, the benefits are forfeited. The Catholic Church has approved eighteen different kinds of scapulars of which the best known is the woolen brown scapular, or the Scapular of Mount Carmel, that the Virgin Mary bestowed on Simon Stock. His feast day is May 16th. (Catholic Online)
