Introduction
Saint Faustina Kowalska discovered something that very few people know: Your Guardian Angel leaves specific, coded, recognizable signs when you are following the path that God has prepared for you. Not vague signs, not coincidences that can be interpreted in a thousand ways, but seven precise signs that Jesus himself revealed to her, saying:
“These are the signs that your Guardian Angel leaves when you are walking in My Will. Learn to recognize them, and when you see all seven simultaneously, you will know with absolute certainty that you are where you need to be.”
What Faustina discovered completely transformed her way of making decisions, discerning vocations, and recognizing when God was guiding her toward something new. She testified that since she learned to recognize these seven signs, she never went astray again because she had a spiritual code that made discernment almost mathematical.
- What are these seven signs?
- How can you recognize them in your daily life?
- How can you distinguish them from the false signs that the enemy tries to imitate?
- How can you use this knowledge to make decisions that will change your eternal destiny?
Once you discover this, you will never again walk in darkness wondering: “Am I doing the right thing? Get ready.”
To understand what Faustina discovered, we must first know the context: It was 1934, and Faustina was going through a period of great uncertainty. Jesus had given her the tremendous mission of spreading the message of Divine Mercy. But the superior of the convent did not believe her. The priests were skeptical, and she herself had doubts:
“Is it really God who is guiding me, or is it all an illusion?”

And in that moment of deep doubt, Jesus appeared to her and said:
“My daughter, I will teach you how to recognize when you are walking in My Will. I will give you seven signs that your Guardian Angel leaves when you are on the right path. And when you see these seven signs present simultaneously, you can be 100% certain that you are doing what I want you to do.”
And what Jesus revealed to her was articulated in seven specific signs, seven spiritual indicators that function as divine GPS.
§1
1. First Sign: Deep peace that does not depend on circumstances
The first sign that your Guardian Angel leaves when you are on the right path is deep peace in your heart, not superficial happiness, not the absence of difficulties, but peace that persists even when circumstances are difficult.
Jesus said to Faustina:
“When you are walking in My Will, your guardian angel instills supernatural peace in your heart. It is peace that the world cannot give and cannot take away.”
You may be in the midst of an external storm, you may have enormous problems, you may be misunderstood by everyone, but inside, deep down, there is peace. And that peace is the signature of your angel saying, “You are doing well.”
And Faustina experienced this personally when she followed God’s will even in the most difficult situations, when she was slandered, when she was sick, when she suffered misunderstandings, she had peace, she slept well, she was not anxious, she was not tormented by obsessive doubts. But when she mistakenly took a path that was not God’s will, even if that path seemed good, even if everyone approved of it, she lost her peace, felt inner restlessness, slept poorly, had tormented thoughts, and understood:
“This is a sign from my Angel telling me: Stop, this is not the way.”
And Jesus explained the crucial difference to her. The peace of the world depends on external circumstances. If everything goes well, you have peace. If something goes wrong, you lose peace. But the peace that comes to you through your Angel does not depend on circumstances; it is unshakeable. And when you feel it, even if everything around you is falling apart, you know that you are where you need to be. St. Paul speaks of this peace in Philippians 4:7:
“And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
This is the peace that the Guardian Angel instills. Peace that surpasses all understanding because it has no logical sense, but it is real and it is an unmistakable sign.
Padre Pio said:
“When I have to make an important decision, I don’t look at whether it is easy or difficult, I look at whether I have peace in doing it. If I have deep peace, even if everyone is against it, I go ahead. If I lose peace, even if everyone is in favor, I stop.”
§2
2. Second Sign: Spiritual joy that coexists with suffering
The second sign that your Guardian Angel leaves is a particular spiritual joy, not a carnal joy that comes from pleasures, but a deep joy that can coexist with physical or emotional suffering.
Jesus said to Faustina:
“When you are doing My Will, even if you suffer, even if you cry, even if you carry a heavy cross, your Guardian Angel puts joy in the depths of your soul.”
It is a paradoxical joy. You may suffer on the surface, but rejoice deep down. And when you experience this paradox, you know you are on the right path. Faustina experienced this intensely when she did God’s will, even in moments of great physical suffering due to illness, even in moments of great emotional pain due to misunderstandings, she felt joy.
Sister Faustina wrote in her diary:
“I suffer so much, but I am happy. I don’t understand how it is possible, but it is so. There is joy that comes from within, stronger than the pain that comes from without.”
And Jesus explained to her why this joy comes from knowing, even if not consciously, that you are fulfilling your eternal destiny, that you are doing what you were created for, and this gives a deep satisfaction that no temporal suffering can erase.
2.1 The opposite is also true
When you are outside of God’s will, even if you are worldly successful, even if everyone applauds you, even if you have pleasures, there is emptiness inside, there is dissatisfaction that nothing can fill. And that emptiness is a sign from your Angel saying:
“You are wasting your life, you are not where you should be.”
St. Teresa of Avila wrote:
“The Lord can give more true joy in a moment of suffering accepted for his sake than the world can give in a lifetime of pleasures.”
§3
3. Third Sign: Providential synchronicities that open doors
The third sign that your guardian angel leaves are providential synchronicities, coincidences too perfect to be random: doors that open exactly when you need them, people who appear at the right moment with exactly what you need.
Jesus said to Faustina:
“When you are walking in My Will, your Guardian Angel orchestrates events and encounters, not in a magical way, but by subtly guiding circumstances, inspiring people, opening and closing doors. And the result is that everything flows, the right things happen at the right time.”
And Faustina saw this continually in her mission, whenever she needed something to carry forward the message of Divine Mercy, a confessor who understood her, a painter for the image, funds for printing, it appeared at exactly the right moment through providential coincidences, but when she mistakenly took the wrong path, everything came to a halt: doors that seemed obvious closed inexplicably. People who seemed willing to help would disappear. Obstacles appeared everywhere, and she understood:
“My Angel is stopping me because this is not the way.”
And Jesus said to her:
“Learn to read these synchronicities. When everything flows despite difficulties, when doors open miraculously, when help comes from where you least expect it, your angel is confirming, go ahead.”
But when everything systematically comes to a standstill, when doors repeatedly close, when insurmountable obstacles appear, your Angel is saying, “Stop, rethink.”
Jesus warned Faustina:
“Be careful, however, not to confuse ‘ease’ with God’s Will. Sometimes My Will requires tremendous effort, but even in that effort there are providential synchronicities that give you the help you need at the moment you need it. And that is the sign.”
St. John Bosco said:
“When God wants something, He opens a thousand doors. When He does not want it, He closes all the doors and even the windows.”
§4
4. Fourth Sign: Multiple confirmations from independent sources
The fourth sign that your Guardian Angel leaves is confirmations that come from multiple independent sources. Not a single confirmation that could be interpretation, but repeated confirmations that come from different directions without you seeking them.
Jesus said to Faustina:
“When you are doing My Will, your Guardian Angel inspires different people at different times to tell you the same thing: a priest in confession, a friend by chance, a book you read, a phrase you hear, all say the same message, and when you see this pattern, you know it is divine confirmation.”
And Faustina experienced this constantly. When Jesus asked her something, she received confirmation from three or four different sources in a short time: her confessor would tell her something, then a nun, without knowing anything, would tell her the same thing. Then she would read exactly the same instruction in a book about a saint.
Jesus explained to her:
“I use many channels to confirm My Will, because I know that you humans doubt. A single voice could be an illusion, but when 3, 4, 5 independent voices say the same thing, the probability of illusion becomes practically zero.”
Jesus also warned:
“Be careful not to seek confirmation obsessively. True confirmation comes spontaneously. You don’t force it, you don’t seek it desperately, it just happens. And when it happens, recognize the pattern and trust.”
4.1 The opposite is also true
When you are outside of God’s will, the voices you receive are contradictory. One says one thing, another says the opposite. There is no consistency. And this confusion is a sign that your Angel is telling you to stop, wait, it is not clear because it is not the right path.
St. Teresa of Avila wrote:
“God always confirms His Will through multiple channels. The devil can imitate a voice, but he cannot orchestrate multiple independent confirmations.”
§5
5. Fifth Sign: Growth in specific virtues
The fifth sign that your Guardian Angel leaves is growth in virtue. When you are walking in God’s Will, you become a better person, not perfect, but better. You grow in patience, charity, humility, and purity.
Jesus said to Faustina:
“When you do My Will, your Guardian Angel works in your soul, cultivating virtues. He is like a gardener who waters plants, and the virtues grow naturally without excessive effort. It is not you who are desperately striving. It is grace that flows through right actions and produces the fruit of sanctification.”
And Faustina noticed this. When she did God’s Will, the virtues that were difficult before became easier. The patience that had been lacking grew. Humility, which had been a struggle, became natural; charity toward difficult people became possible. But when she mistakenly took the wrong path, even if it seemed like the right one, she saw a decline in virtue. She became more impatient, more proud, more irritable, more judgmental, and she understood that this path was not God’s because it did not produce the fruit of holiness.
And Jesus said to her:
“This is an infallible test. Look at the fruit in your life. If after months or years of following a path, you have become more holy, more patient, more charitable, more humble, that path is Mine. If you have become more proud, more harsh, more judgmental, more impatient, even if you have had worldly success, that path is not Mine.”
This is a direct application of Jesus’ words in Matthew 7:1,20:
“By their fruits you will know them. Every good tree bears good fruit, and every bad tree bears bad fruit. Therefore, by their fruits you will know them.”
St. Francis de Sales said:
“True devotion, that which comes from God, makes us better in all our duties. It makes us more patient, more gentle, more charitable. If a religious practice makes us more irritable, harder, more judgmental, that practice does not come from God.”
§6
6. Sixth Sign: Increase in trials with grace to endure them
The sixth sign that your Guardian Angel leaves is paradoxical. When you are doing God’s Will, trials increase, but you receive grace to endure them. It is not that life becomes easy, but that you become stronger.
Jesus said to Faustina:
“When I call you to an important mission, your Guardian Angel knows that the enemy will attack. So he prepares your soul by fortifying it with prayer, and the result is that trials increase, but you do not collapse; rather, you grow through them, and this is a sign that you are on the right path.”
And Faustina experienced this dramatically: the more she advanced in the mission of Divine Mercy, the more the trials increased. Terrible illnesses, slander from her sisters, doubts from her superiors, demonic attacks; but she received grace to endure everything and not only to endure, but to transform suffering into an offering of love.
And Jesus explained to her:
“If the trials increase, but you have peace, joy, and strength to face them, it is a sign that your Angel is supporting you because you know where you need to be. But if the trials crush you, make you despair, make you collapse completely, perhaps that is not My way or perhaps it is not the right time.”
Please note: this does not mean that those who collapse are not doing God’s will. Everyone has moments of weakness, but the general pattern is what counts. If you are generally able to face trials with supernatural grace that would not be possible naturally, it is an angelic sign.
6.1 The opposite is also true
If the path is too easy, too without resistance, too without the cross, it may not be God’s will. Because Jesus said:
“Whoever wants to come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow me.”
St. Teresa of Avila said:
“God never leads souls by the easy path, but always gives grace proportionate to the trial.”
§7
7. Seventh Sign: Visible Apostolic Fruit
The seventh sign that your Guardian Angel leaves is apostolic fruit. When you are doing God’s Will, your life produces fruit that lasts not only for you, but for others. Souls are converted, people change, and good multiplies.
Jesus said to Faustina:
“When you do My will, your Guardian Angel multiplies your work. It is like loaves and fishes. You give little, but it produces much, and you see concrete fruit. You see people changing thanks to your example. You see souls coming closer to Me thanks to your words. You see good spreading beyond you. And this is confirmation that you are My instrument.”
And Faustina saw it. Although she was a simple, unknown, sick nun, the message of Divine Mercy that she spread produced immense fruit, conversions, miracles, graces. And that fruit was disproportionate to her natural abilities, and she understood:
“This is the work of my Angel who multiplies what I give.”
But Jesus warned:
“Do not confuse worldly success with spiritual fruit. You can have enormous success according to the world, money, fame, applause, but zero spiritual fruit, no conversions, no real change in souls, and that is not My fruit.”
And He added:
“True fruit lasts; it is not a momentary emotion; it is a profound transformation.”
When someone encounters your life and years later is still changed, that is true fruit. And when you see this pattern repeatedly, you know that your Angel is blessing your work. The proof is in these words:
John 15:16: “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last.”
Fruit that remains, not passing emotion, but lasting change.
St. John Bosco said:
“When I do God’s Will, even my mistakes produce good. When I do not do God’s Will, even my successes do not produce lasting fruit.”
§8
8. Apply the benefits
Jesus gave Faustina practical instructions on how to use them and said:
“Do not obsessively seek the seven signs, do not force them, but when you have to make an important decision, when you have to discern your vocation, when you want to know if you are on the right path, look at these seven and count how many are present.”
8.1 Scale of discernment
Jesus gave her a scale of discernment:
“If you see zero or only one of these signs, that path is probably not Mine. If you see two or three, it may be Mine, but it is not the right time. Or is there something that needs to be fixed? If you see four or five, it is most likely My Will, but wait for final confirmation. If you see six or all seven simultaneously, you can be 100% sure. This is My Will for you. Go forward without fear.
But He added an important warning:
- The enemy will try to imitate these signs.
- He can give false peace, which depends on circumstances.
- He can give false joy, which is only superficial emotion.
- He can orchestrate false synchronicities that are only coincidences, but he cannot imitate all seven simultaneously, and he cannot imitate the pattern over time. True signs persist; false signs disappear.
§9
9. Final exhortation
Sister Faustina practiced this method of discernment for the rest of her life and testified:
“Since Jesus taught me the seven signs, I have never made a wrong important decision. Whenever I saw the seven signs present, I went forward with total confidence. Whenever they were missing, I waited or changed direction. And I have never regretted following this method.”
- If you are facing an important decision, if you are considering a change of job, look at the seven signs.
- If you are discerning your vocation, look at the seven signs.
- If you are deciding whether to marry someone, look at the seven signs.
- If you are thinking of starting a new project, look at the seven signs and count honestly how many are present, without deceiving yourself, without forcing interpretation, but looking objectively at reality and then act according to the scale that Jesus gave to Saint Faustina.
Remember, your Guardian Angel wants to guide you, wants to show you the way, wants to leave you signs, but you must learn to recognize them. With the seven signs, you have the map, you have the code, you have the spiritual compass that can guide you through all of life’s decisions to Heaven.
9.1 Prayer to Saint Faustina
Saint Faustina Kowalska, who received the seven angelic signs from Jesus, teach us to recognize them in our lives, teach us to discern between God’s Will and our illusions. Teach us to walk with confidence, knowing that our Guardian Angel leaves visible traces when we are on the right path and that by following these signs, we can perfectly fulfill the eternal destiny that God has prepared for us. Amen.
Saint Faustina Kowalska, pray for us.
